Q&A: Finish on Hanika 56PF

Is the finish on this guitar a nitrocellulose finish? Or is it comparable to a kind of french polish? Thank you JB

Thank you for contacting us.

The finish is neither nitrocellulose nor french polish, but rather a type of polyurethane applied with special techniques.

On the back and sides there is a high gloss “HE” finish and on the soundboard a “HE matt finish”

if you look at another page on the hanika.de website you can see more information on each of these finishes.

(the first section of this page is devoted to woods and the second section to finishes).

The high gloss HE finish on this page is called “UV-CURING ACRYLIC VARNISH HIGH-GLOSS FINISH” and is the right hand box on the first row. The “he matt finish” on this page is called “PUR* VARNISH HE MATT FINISH” and is the left hand box on the second row.

Hanika guitars in general are finished to an extremely high standard but always with a view to minimising the weight of varnish on the soundboard.
